Billie Dean Torkelson Carpenter was born January 18th, 1921, to Dora and Homer Dean, pioneer pharmacist in the Everett area. Her family joined the Everett Golf and Country Club the year she was born and along with her brother Jack, they all became champion golfers at the club. Billie graduated from Everett High School in 1939 and attended the University of Washington where she affiliated with the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She majored in music and had a stunning soprano voice. After college she was a soloist at various club functions, weddings and churches in the Everett area. She was also a life long member of the Everett Book Club, active in the Everett Opera Guild, member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school and a supporter of the Everett Assistance League. Billie lived her entire life in Everett and loved her home town. She had many cherished friends. She said the hardest thing about being 100 was that most of her dearest friends were gone.
In 1942 Billie married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Torkelson. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his death in 1999. In 2001, Billie married William D. Carpenter, also from Everett. They had 10 fun filled years traveling to Hawaii and Europe until his death in 2011. Both husbands enjoyed golf, bridge, and entertaining, as did Billie.
Billie is survived by son Dean (Roseann), daughter Mary (Lanny), AFS exchange student Marcelline Komor Schmidt vom Hofe, stepdaughters Susan Dawson (Jerry) and Mary Milner, grandchildren John and Molly (Jay) and great grandson Jack.
The family would like to extend a heart filled thanks to Annabell, Terry and family from At Harmony Home Care for the loving comfort and care they gave Billie the last 5 months of her life.
The family plans private services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Billie's name to the Trinity Episcopal Endowment Fund at 2301 Hoyt, Everett, WA 98201, or a charity of your choice.
