Born August 18, 1952, in Mahaxay, Laos, the youngest of nine children, he flew T-28 fighter planes for the Royal Lao Air Force. Even many years later, his eyes lit up with excitement whenever he talked about flying. He came to the United States in 1975, settling first in Elgin, Illinois, then moving to Seattle to marry Sengdeuane Phounsavan. This year was their 50th wedding anniversary.
Lovingly known as “Mr. Boon,” he spent 34 years with Seattle Public Schools, managing building maintenance at schools across the district. He took great pride in his work and always did more than what was asked to help others. He was a true Mr. Fix-it-All who was happiest working on a car, gardening, or out on the golf course. After retiring, he helped raise his grandchildren and loved being a grandpa.
He leaves behind his wife, Sengdeuane; daughter Veda (married to Jake Hikida); son Aurick; grandchildren Mason and Lila; and siblings Khanthakesy and Bounsisavanh. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a large, loving extended family of in-laws and the next generations who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
