

Carl served in three branches of the armed services for a total of 31 years of federal service. He served over 20 years in the Coast Guard, two years in the Army and after his retirement in the Coast Guard, he served nearly ten years with the Military Sea Transport Service, a division of the Navy. After this service, he joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary (27 years), was a life member in the Fleet Reserve Association and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Carl was also a life member of the Western Fraternal Life Association, a Czech and Slovak organization and a member of the Eagles. He loved to stay active and worked for another 15 years in the Navy Exchange System and worked as a part-time custodian for a local church into his 80's. Carl continued to drive until the young age of 88.
In 2007 while living with his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Marilyn, Carl became a great-grandfather three times over all in the month of October. Lillian Zabransky was born to grandson Mike Zabransky and his wife Laura. Two weeks later, twins Emmett and Taylor Jean Moss were born to granddaughter Laura Moss and her husband Justin.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Henrietta, and his daughters, Doris McCartney and Sue Spaete. He is survived by his son, Stephen Zabransky; grandchildren: Keith Wegner, Scot Wegner, Sharon Faucetta, Kimberly Giese, Mike Zabransky, Laura Moss; great-grandchildren: Lilly Zabransky, Emmett Moss, Taylor Moss, Sebastian Faucetta; son-in-law: Gordon Spaete; daughter-in-law: Marilyn Zabransky.
Carl had a full life doing what he preferred, serving his country and staying busy by working and attending many meetings where he could talk with people and reminisce about the past.
