Carolyn 'Hope' Flodin went peacefully to the Lord on July 10th 2012 at the age of 81. Born October 20, 1930 in Winona, Missouri where she lived until she was in her early teens. Her family then moved to Winlock, WA. In her later teens, her family re-located to the town of Lynden, WA where she graduated from Lynden High School.
In 1954, she married the love of her life, Arnold E. Flodin. During their happily married life together they were blessed with three girls; Carol, Nan, and Marsha. Sadly, in October '81, her soul mate, Arnie, passed away. However, in time she was overjoyed with her new role as a grandmother of four healthy grandsons: Bryan (26), Kenton (23), Travis (18), and Michael (17).
Hope worked for Safeco Insurance Company from 1982-1996. Retirement provided additional quality time with family, grandchildren, gardening, Husky football, college basketball, and an opportunity to travel with her sister and best friend Pat Barnes.
Tragically, Hope was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 1998. She was able to reside safely in her home for 42 years. From 2009-2011 three loving and attentive care givers assisted her as her needs increased during the declining years. Therefore, she was able to stay in a familiar environment until enhanced care was necessary. In November 2011, Hope moved to Clairbridge at Silver Lake where she was surrounded by supportive, loving staff members who tirelessly met her every need, until her passing.
We will greatly miss our mother. She nurtured us with unconditional love, guidance, and faith throughout our lives. We are comforted in knowing that Mom and Dad are together again in Heaven.
