Cathy Ida Griffiths

Cathy Ida Griffiths, age 56, returned home to her Father in Heaven on April 16, 2009, ending a 3 year battle with cancer. She is finally at peace. Born on May 5, 1952 in Seattle, Washington to Robert and Delores Patterson, Cathy has been a life long resident of this area. She was a very happy child and shared that happiness with others throughout her whole life. She graduated from Edmonds High School in 1970. After graduation, she attended Edmonds Community College. She put her education on hold to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Mission from January of 1973 to June of 1974. Upon completion of her mission she attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in General Education. She began a teaching career teaching elementary school for the Provo School District in Provo, Utah. It was in Provo that she met and fell in love with her sweetheart, Jack Griffiths. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10, 1980. When their first child was born, they decided they wanted Cathy to stay at home and raise their children. She put her teaching career on hold to begin the most important job she ever held, mother. After the death of her father in 1981, they decided to return to Cathy's hometown, Edmonds, Washington. Being a mother is what brought Cathy the greatest joy in life. She was just beginning to experience the joy of being a grandma with her precious granddaughters, Emma and Eve Griffiths, Caitlin and Cora Weeks. She returned to teaching in 2000 at College Place Elementary where she was a loved and sought after kindergarten teacher. Anyone who knew Cathy wanted their child to be in her class. Cathy found the positive in all she experienced in life. She will be remembered for her smile and her contagious laugh.

Cathy is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carol Lee Patterson. Cathy is survived by her husband, Jack Griffiths of Edmonds; children, David (Melisa) Griffiths of Higginsville, Missouri, Emily (Shawn) Weeks of Lynnwood, Jonathan, Michael and Daniel Griffiths, of Edmonds; sisters, Barbara (Brent) Chipman of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kristen (Jerry) Hunt of West Valley City, Utah; brothers, Robert (Lauri) Patterson of Bothell, Brad (Bambi) Patterson of Las Vegas, Nevada; 34 nieces and nephews and their growing families; many loving extended family, friends and students.

Funeral Information

Services will be held on Saturday, April 25th. Viewing at 10:00 am, funeral service at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Edmonds Building (7950 228th St. SW, Edmonds)
