

Cecile Marie Hoeksema, 86, of Hillsboro, Oregon, passed away on July 5, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 14, 1935, in Coopersville, Michigan to Egbert (Bert) and Gasina (Cena) Sprik. She was the 6th of 8 children.
Cecile graduated salutatorian from Coopersville High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1958. She then attended Western Michigan University, where she earned her Master of Arts in Education in 1962.
Cecile began her teaching career at Pine Tree Elementary in Longview, Texas, where she taught fifth grade. She married her James Robert Hoeksema on June 14th, 1963. In 1967, she and her husband, moved to Seattle, Washington. She then taught third and fourth grade at Watson Groen Christian School (now Shoreline Christian) until 1972. In 1973, Cecile began her career with the Navy as a contract specialist. She worked for the Navy for 22 years, retiring in 1995 as a GS-11.
Cecile was a kind and loving woman who was dedicated to her family, her church, and her community. She was a breast cancer survivor and actively supported International Students and World Vision. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lila Vonk and Marion Demos; her brothers, Hubert, Calvin, and Dale Sprik.
Cecile is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, James Robert Hoeksema; her son, Orson Jay Hoeksema; her granddaughter, Madison; sister Thelma Zandstra of Greensburg, IN; brother Reverend Ronald Sprik (Judy) of Belmont, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
