Chalmers “Chot” Ekness peacefully passed away at his home in Seattle on December 18th. He will be greatly missed by his life partner, Jean Hipps, son Jeff and wife Maureen, stepson Rick Goerlich, daughters Lisa Ekness and Carla Ekness Gallagher, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chot was born in Seattle on July 25, 1928, to Sverre and Gunhilde Ekness. He attended the University of Washington and Seattle University. He was married to Beverly Foster in 1953 until her death in 1997. A civil, structural, and consulting engineer, he started his own business in partnership with Hawley Dudley, architect. Though he was admired for his fine mind and business acumen, he will be most remembered for his generosity, humor, and kindness, and his love of golf and motorcycles.
