Charles went to his Lord after a long fulfilling life of 94 1/2 years. Born in Seattle, Washington to Andrew M. W Knebel and Gladys Spielgelberg Knebel, he was the eldest of 5 children. He attended Beacon Hill grade school and graduated from Franklin High School in 1949. During his teens, he learned and enjoyed being an avid radio ham. His first job was at Boeing for 2 years. Then following in his father's footsteps, in 1952 he joined the Navy becoming an aviation electronics technician.
After an honorable discharge in 1956, Charles (or Chuck as friends called him) took advantage of the GI Bill to attend the University of Washington, graduating with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1960. While attending the UW, he joined a Christian organization (Gamma Delta) where he met Judy Eash. They were married in Spokane, WA on March 20, 1960. He began his career at Boeing, then transitioned to a job at Pacific NW Bell until his retirement.
Taking advantage of an early retirement, Chuck and Judy were able to enjoy numerous trips and travels abroad. He also spent time in his garden and added to his vast woodpile, which brought a smile to everyone who knew about his collection!
A very unselfish person, he also readily gave to others of his time and talents in a number of tangible ways (especially in the area of car repairs!). Chuck was also adept in carpentry, building a beautiful dining room addition to their 1918 Craftsman home of 66 years, where he and Judy raised their three children: Jennifer (deceased in 2021), Linda and David.
Ahead of the times, Chuck was aware of, appreciated and respected the value and conservation of God's earth and its resources. But first and foremost he loved his Lord and Savior. He was a quiet person, not outspoken nor demonstrative in his mannerisms or his beliefs, but his life reflected his recognizably solid trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. All who knew him have been blessed!
Charles leaves behind his loving wife Judy. His daughter Linda. His son David (his wife Shelley).Grandchildren Josiah, Bennett (Greta, great granddaughter Georgia), Dawson, Sadie (Buddy), Almaluna and Estrella. His brothers Ed and Paul and his sister Andrea Mangold. Another brother Andrew is deceased. There are also numerous nieces and nephews.
His memory and legacy will live on through all of them. To God be the glory!
Visitation will be held at Evergreen Washelli Funeral, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133, on June 29, 2026, 11:00 am, followed by a 12:00 pm Graveside committal service. Following the graveside a reception will be held in the Celebration Hall at Evergreen-Washelli.
