Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa was born July 21, 1944 in Astoria, OR to the parents of Edward and Lois Watne. In his sleep, he went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2024 while at his daughter’s home in Arizona.
Chuck leaves his loving wife of 59 years, Leslie, along with his daughter Carie (Lanny), and his son Timothy (Kathy). “Grandpa” will be dearly missed by his granddaughters Sara (Patrick), Breanne, and Stephanie, along with his great-granddaughter Maren.
He is also survived by his brothers Gary (Shirley), and Jeffery (Lynne) and his Aunt Charlotte, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lois, and his brother Michael.
Chuck grew up in the Ravenna neighborhood of Seattle with his younger brothers Gary Wayne, Michael David, and Jeffery Neal. He graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1962. Later that year, he joined the U.S. Navy for a two-year tour with his best friend, Tom Neva.
In 1964, Chuck met and married the love of his life, Leslie Ann, and they began their journey of raising a family. In 1965, Carie Lea was born. Then in 1968, Timothy Edward was born and they purchased their first home in Everett. 1968 was also the year he joined the grocery family of Olson’s Foods and worked for the company for 35 years before retiring in 2003.
Chuck’s greatest treasure in life was his family and spending as much time as he could with each and every one of us. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting trips, and classic-car Rod Runs with Brother Gary. But most of all, he and Leslie loved creating special moments with family vacations. From charter boats, houseboats, beach cabins, and many other special places, they created cherished memories with their family and life-long friends.
Although he loved his children, he adored his “Pumpkins.” They were his pride and joy and his world revolved around his granddaughters. Whether it was following Sara (Punkin #1) around the golf course, watching Breanne (Punkin #2) progress to her black belt in karate, or watching Stephanie (Punkin #3) participate in a Japanese language competition, he made sure he was there for it all. He attended school and life events, no matter how big or small. He watched all three of his girls go on to graduate from college – although he had to wear collegiate gear from three different universities. One of his last greatest treasures was becoming a great-grandpa and welcoming his great-granddaughter Maren (Punkin #4) into the family.
During his retirement, Chuck found much joy at the Port of Everett where he took daily walks with friends and happily included Tim after his recent retirement. The port is also where he and Leslie joined Tim and Kathy for yearly boating events such as Opening Day of Boating and the lighted Christmas Boat Parades.
In December of 2020, Carie and Lanny moved to Arizona and Chuck and Leslie were delighted to schedule multiple yearly visits to spend time with them. It was in Arizona where Chuck passed away peacefully the morning after what he would describe as “another beautiful day!”
Dad/Grandpa - “In every decision we make, we will find the whispers of your wisdom guiding us.”
