Clifford Lee Kurtzweg beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dedicated community member passed away April 21, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Kay Kurtzweg; son, Steven Kurtzweg (wife Christy); daughter Melissa De Leeuw (husband Howard); grandchildren, Pedro and Mari Correa, Elisabeth Heftel (husband Brannon); and great-grandchildren, Ari and Olive Heftel. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
As a civil engineer, Cliff’s impact can be seen throughout the city of Seattle and Western WA. He spent over 30 years with the Department of Transportation. He was instrumental in implementing the “Flow System” to Seattle. He then transitioned to Sound Transit where he played a key role in the planning and building of the Light Rail, propelling Seattle into the world of modern and high speed public transportation.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Cliff’s free time was filled with a love for the outdoors. He was an avid gardener taking immense pride in his manicured lawn and flourishing marionberry bushes. As a Scout Leader, he instilled love of the outdoors with the young people he mentored. He enjoyed woodworking and creating, there was nothing Cliff could not make, fix, repair or do. Cliff had an adventurous spirit and traveled with Kay meeting their children all over the globe no matter where they were living.
Cliff’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of Magnolia Lutheran Church, serving as an usher and taking great pride in maintaining the church grounds and facilities. He actively participated in the church community, contributing to decisions on leadership and fostering a welcoming environment.
His dedication to his family was unwavering. His family was always his top priority and his love was shown through his actions and words. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren and enthusiastically supported all of their endeavors. Cliff was a quiet man of few words however, when he did speak it was always worth listening to. Cliff will be missed.
