Cristy Sue Whitney

Cristy Sue Whitney (Walmer) died peacefully at the age of 67 on Nov. 15th at home in Mountlake Terrace, WA., after a courageous 13-year battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded in love by her family.

Cristy is survived by her mother Lola, sister Donna, beloved husband Kenneth, daughters Alisa and Sheri, son-in-law Chad, granddaughters Annabelle and Allison, grandson Liam and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father George and sister Gloria.

Cristy was born on Dec. 6, 1947 in Seattle, WA. She graduated from Renton High School in 1966 and Western Washington University in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in French and a minor in Elementary Education. She worked for Boeing over three summers while attending college. She started her elementary teaching career in 1970 in Adna, WA., as a third-grade teacher. She married Kenneth on June 10, 1972. Cristy was a substitute in the Seattle School District from 1972-84 before working as a substitute and librarian in the Edmonds School District from 1984-2011.

Cristy was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. Her passion was books and teaching children the importance of reading. She was kind and warm-hearted and had the ability to make everyone she came in contact with feel special. She will be dearly missed.
