David Allen Bergstrom, 70, passed away unexpectedly in Seattle on May 20th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 10th, 1954, in Kalispell, Montana, David will be remembered not only for his musical talent, but for the way he loved his family, welcomed friends, and always found a reason to laugh.
A gifted classical guitarist and lifelong musician, his passion for music led him to earn a master’s degree in classical guitar from Southern Methodist University after attending Arizona State University. While at SMU, he had the opportunity to study with the legendary Andrés Segovia in Madrid, Spain - an experience he cherished and was deeply proud of.
David shared his love of music with the world through a remarkable career in the industry, working in artist relations at Kaman Music (Ovation / Takamine) and later serving as Marketing Director at Yamaha. His work took him on adventures around the globe—travels that became the source of countless stories he loved to recount. But his greatest pride was always his family. He was a devoted husband to Allison, a loving father to Dylan and Ashley (with husband Chad), and a proud “Pops” to his new grandson, Weston.
He loved opening his home to anyone willing to accept an invitation. In California, where his children grew up, his house was always full of friends and family. Later in life, he continued this spirit of hospitality at the lake house on Winnipesaukee, where he took great joy in giving boat rides and having his house full of loved ones.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings—Trudy Waggener, Terry McNichols, Richard (with wife Leona), and James Bergstrom—his brothers-in-law Dean Ashley, Drew Ashley (with wife Jerry) as well as by a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who all held a special place in his heart. Lastly, his loyal dog Huck, who rarely left his side, will miss him greatly, both for their bond and for his endless supply of pockets full of treats.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Save The Music Foundation, a cause close to David’s heart. David cared about getting instruments into people’s hands and giving children the opportunity to experience the joy and growth that music brings. The Save The Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps students, schools, and communities reach their full potential through the power of making music. Additionally, donations can be made to navigatingrecovery.org, an organization that provided meaningful support to David’s family. Though we have many years of warm memories with David, he also struggled and was very unwell for the last decade of his life. Navigating Recovery offers resources and community for those seeking healing, as well as for the families who support them. Contributions in his memory will help others on their path to recovery.
