

Born February 2, 1956 in Seattle, WA, Debbie passed away on September 17, 2012 at the age of 56. She died of a viral lung infection after a 2 1/2 year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Debbie had recently been accepted as a candidate in the lung transplant program of the UW Medical Center. She was the daughter of August and Virginia Engel. She obtained a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Washington after graduating from Rainier Beach High School. Her entire career Debbie pursued a passion for fashion and people in retail sales of women's clothing. Over the years she was employed by Frederick & Nelson and later Nordstrom's. In recent years she excelled at her profession for Chico's, first as a Manager at their West Seattle store and then as an Assistant Manager in Redmond, where she was usually their top seller. Debbie's other passions were nurturing relationships with family and a wide network of friends, and travel. She is survived by her brother Gregory Engel, MD, her nephew Gregory "Max" Engel, her niece Madeline Engel and a very large and loving extended family. She is also survived by her long-time loving companion, John J. Sullivan.
