on January 27, 2023 at 5:51 pm at home. She was born in
Texas to Andrew Whitfield and Bessie Park Whitfield. She
attended schools in Turlock, California and the College of San
Mateo in the Bay Area. She went to work at the San Francisco
Naval Shipyard, ending her career with the U.S. Forestry
Service. She retired after 23 years in 1983.
At the age of 16, she married Clark B. Clayton. She lived in Los
Angeles, CA during World War ll while her husband was serving
in the army oversees, experiencing blackouts and earthquakes
while raising two small children. A third child was born in 1946.
In retirement, she enjoyed RV traveling in the company of her
husband, exploring the U.S. Her hobbies also included
gardening, writing and crocheting.
Dona is survived by her sons Allen Clayton and Larry Clayton,
eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two
great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Clark
Clayton and son, Conrad Clayton.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
