Donna M. Resler of Seattle, Washington passed away peacefully on February 14th, 2012. She was 85 years old. She was born in 1926 on the family farm near Grace City North Dakota to Reuben and Lily Topp.
As the oldest child, she worked very hard on the farm. Her father told her that without her help, they would have lost the farm during the Great Depression years. She graduated from high school in 1944 and taught in a country school house near Grace City.
In February, 1947, she met Francis Resler at a dance. Francis was from Juanita North Dakota, and after returning from his Army service in Japan, was going to college in Fargo North Dakota. They fell in love and were married June 30th, 1947.
By 1958, the small general store in Juanita could not support their growing family of six children, so Francis headed West looking for work, settling in Seattle Washington. That year they bought the family home near Northgate where Donna raised her family which eventually included eight children, 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Donna throughout her life was active in caring and serving others; visiting the elderly, serving in many roles at Christ the King Catholic Church, bringing communion to shut-ins or at the hospital, volunteer service at Northwest hospital.
As a mother Donna would do anything to nurture and care for each one in her large family. She knew everyone's birthdays, favorite foods, likes and dislikes. She was a fantastic cook.
Donna is survived by her children and their spouses: Gary Resler (Joanne), Mark Resler (Joyce), Kirk Resler (Marcia), David Resler (Glenda), Dawn Helm (Lane), Lee Resler (Kathy), Dick Resler (Amy), and Suzanne Schimpf (Brian),her brother Royce and sisters Gloria and Ruby.Donna was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 2004,her sister Marlyss in 1979, her brother Floyd in 1936 and her grandson Paul in 2000.
Through Donnas' declining health and many Doctor visits in recent years, she maintained her upbeat outlook and zest for life. Donna deeply touched the lives of many over the course of her life. She will be greatly missed and kept in loving memory by her large family and many friends.
