Doris was born in Seattle to Hattie and Arthur Hogle, residing in Mt. Baker, Hillman and finally Beacon Hill for most of her adult life. After graduating from Franklin HS in 1942, she went to work for Pacific Bell in downtown Seattle for the next 10 years. Those years during WWII were very memorable to her in the many lifelong friends she made. Doris and Edwin married June 19, 1953. She joyfully embraced the births of her two daughters and the many years of homemaking that followed, especially sharing her talents of baking, sewing and gardening with family and friends. They were members of Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church which was a source of close supportive friendships. Her joy was enhanced with the births of each of her grandchildren, and to her last day she was genuinely interested in their lives. Doris was predeceased by Edwin, her husband of 35 years. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Nick) Papini and Marsha McCrum; granddaughters Laura (Matt) Shumate and Danielle (Jason) Werschkul; grandson Kyle Heckenlaible and numerous other beloved family. Doris left with her loved ones the belief that she lived by: “Always be happy whatever your lot in life is. Always remember to be honest, persevere and show kindness to others.”
Special thanks to the staff and many friends at Providence Marianwood in Issaquah for their care and loving support. A memorial service will be held January 29 at 11:00a.m. at Bleitz Funeral Home, 316 Florentia Street, Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ memory to Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission.
