Born 12/1/10 to Floyd Spangler Flickinger and Margaret Gunn Flickinger at Seattle General Hospital and resided near the U of W and attended primary school in the ?Interlaken? as she put it area. The family moved to the Richmond beach area where she attended Richmond Beach High School and was on the State Champion Debate team.
It was here that she met her classmate and lifelong friend Chuck Cooper.
After graduating from the University of Washington in 1932 she followed in her father?s footsteps both in her love of gardening and working for the Pacific Telephone Company Ma Bell and later Verizon for 38 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She enjoyed her many travels abroad allowing her to become an avid collector of Asian art and porcelains. Her travels took her around the world several times, but she enjoyed her visits to India, China and Japan the most.
Over the years, Dorothy made generous contributions to U of W Libraries, Children?s Hospital, Wing Luke Museum, Edmonds Historical Museum, Stevens Hospital and many of her friends. In the recent past, she funded the restoration of her grandparent?s farmhouse in Ladner, British Columbia, Canada
Her wonderful tales have regaled many with the amazing details of her childhood, friends and travels. She particularly enjoyed telling of her visit to the Taj Mahl, cobras and all.
She had lived in her own home in Edmonds since she moved from Richmond Beach in 1977. Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers whose diligence allowed her to remain in her own home until her final days.
She was preceded in death by her parents and leaves many cousins in Hawaii, California, Florida and Canada.
