Dorothy Irene Whitney

Born at home on July 5, 1934, to Joseph and Sarah Miori, Dorothy was raised in the heart of Seattle’s "Garlic Gulch." As the middle of five siblings, she developed an enduring foundation of faith and family, graduating from Holy Rosary High School in 1952. In 1956, Dorothy met the love of her life, Richard Whitney. They were married on May 26, 1957, at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, beginning a beautiful 69-year journey of marriage, partnership, and shared devotion.

Dorothy was known for her sharp mind and professional excellence, notably serving as the Head Purchaser for Harborview Medical Center. Her organizational skill and leadership were held in high regard. A "proud Italian" through and through, Dorothy dedicated decades to honoring her roots. She was an avid researcher of history who traveled to Italy six times, thriving on the joy of finding her ancestry and reconnecting with family across the world. Her

contributions to the preservation of this heritage were vast and impactful; she was a longtime member of the Sons and Daughters of Italy Seattle Fedele #1390, served as the State Deputy

to the Auburn Lodge #1855, and held the esteemed position of Grand Lodge Treasurer.

Above all, Dorothy was the heart of her family. Known for her hospitality and "the more the merrier" philosophy, she ensured that anyone who entered her home felt like family. She was a constant pillar of support and guided her grandchildren with a deep commitment to their education and success.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Marie, John, and Joe. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard; her sister, Delores Meneghini; her children, Janel, Michael, and Linda; and her three beloved grandchildren, Joseph, Christina, and Kylie. Her guidance, spirit, and deep-rooted strength will be missed by all who knew her.

A Funeral Mass will be held in honor of Dorothy’s life on May 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Bridget Catholic Church (4900 NE 50th St, Seattle, WA 98105). A reception will follow in the parish hall.
