Born July 23, 1931 in Glendale, CA. He moved to Seattle in September 1970 and began 30 years of sobriety, touching other lives and helping others during these years. He originated/drove the detox wagon for Seattle/King County from the beginning of service in 1975 and continued this work until his retirement in 1999. The Harbor House/Dutch Shisler Center, a safe haven and support center for homeless people in our city, was dedicated in July 1997 in his honor.
He died October 16, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Janice Rudnitski and two children, Jennifer Todd Hayden, Joseph Shisler and sister, Darlene MacRae of McMinnville, OR.
Services for a celebration of his life Friday, October 20, 2000; 7:00pm, Christ the King Catholic Church 405 N. 117th St. Seattle. Private committal, Washelli Columbarium.
