Earl was a wonderful guy and I will miss him - he was always fun to be around and treated me like a "real person", even when I was just an obnoxious kid - 

I fondly remember Earl's stories of his Navy days (including the "funny ones" from when he was a POW) as well as the letters he would type to my dad (with a real typewriter and hand-written corrections, no less) while he was taking care of the boilers at Boeing .

One last thing - Earl and my dad were cousins, but they so close that they always seemed more like brothers -

Earl had only been a "real" part of my life these past 14 years and I am really going to miss him.  I've truly enjoyed his stories...even when it got to the point where I didn't understand what he was saying because I enjoyed how animated he got while telling them!  I'm truly going to miss him asking me and Lee periodically "what Helen had on us"; and I'm truly going to miss his flirtatiousness...Earl, if only I were 30 years older or you 30 years younger!!!  Rest in peace

I feel fortunate to have had Earl come into my life.I enjoyed our talks about shared interests and experiences. A great story teller. I enjoyed his quick wit and smile. I always looked forward to our visits. A truly good man!

To the man that I've known since the 5th grade, over 45 years. You were the sweetest man with the blarny smile!! That always had something nice to say to me and always glad to see me all the way through highschool. You  always had the most amazing and vivid story's from your time spent in the navy. We will miss you always. Yours truly, Helen's childhood friend.

It's been said that we can't choose our family but I would have chosen him. Earl was a giant of a man, in my eyes, even though he was small in stature. I don't think he realized how strong and valiant he was. He learned at a young age that hard work, being honest and caring and having a strong character would see him through many obstacles in his life. Some of which I'm sure he thought he could never survive but he did and he told stories that will last for generations and mean so much to all of us for a long time. He won medals but he won my heart a long time ago. Sometimes there's just not enough words to say how special someone was and how much they'll be missed.

You were a Great man, a wonderful father and a fantastic friend.
I will miss you forever.

I will deeply miss Earl.  He was a dear friend and a great Division Officer.  We have corresponded for appoximately 60 years, and I will truly miss our letters.  He told me of his suffering as a prisoner of war, but also shared his hobbies and love of his family.  Although we lived miles apart, I felt very close to him through our letters.

The moment we met Earl Buell, we knew how fortunate we were to have him as our new neighbor.  What a dear, sweet man he was!  We will always remember the good times and the laughter that we shared with him.  Earl, we will always love you and miss you.
