Lyn was born on March 7, 1937 in Belfast, N. Ireland to Nan and Jack Kelso, the first of their four children. At age 15, she emigrated with her family to the small town of Ocean Falls, BC. There she met and fell in love with Daniel J. Elenbaas, and the two were married on August 2, 1956. They had four children who she loved and nurtured throughout her life.
She married her second husband, Garold Lee Fowler on December 26, 1973. Lyn’s four plus Garold’s eight children made for a very large family, which went from Cheaper by the Dozen to a “baker’s dozen” with the birth of their daughter in 1976. Lyn loved and was loved by all thirteen children. Lyn and Garold were happily married for nearly 30 years, and she missed him dearly after he passed away in 2003.
Lyn excelled in school throughout her life and earned a degree with honors in English Literature from the University of Washington. Her love of reading and sense of humor led her naturally to a career as a schoolteacher, where she had a positive impact on so many. After retirement, she continued to volunteer at local schools and enjoyed helping students develop reading skills.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lyn worshipped with the local congregation in Edmonds. There she served in many volunteer positions, manifesting her lifelong faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Lyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brother Stephen Kelso, her sister Alannah Gilchrist, her husband Garold, and her stepson Gary Fowler. She is survived by her brother Jack Kelso, her son Bob Elenbaas and his wife Louise, daughter Dina Templeman and her husband Joe, daughter Lindy Langdon and her husband Joey, son Dan Elenbaas Jr. and his wife Shelley, daughter Alannah Mitchell and her husband Keil, and her stepchildren Peggy Carter, Jeff Fowler, Matt Fowler, Jon Fowler, Sue Fowler, Pam Ellsworth, and Kathy Jensen. Lyn’s legacy includes fifty-six grandchildren and seventy-six (and counting) great-grandchildren.
