Liz was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to parents Delbert James and Dorothy Patterson. She moved, with family members, to Shelton, Washington in 1946 where Liz attended school and later graduated from Irene S. Reed High School. During her teens, Liz was a ballet and tap dancer, and a Rainbow Girl.
She went on to attend the University of Puget Sound, pledging Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a cheerleader at UPS and active in the drama department.
Liz married Dave Austin and raised two daughters Laurie and Amy. They especially enjoyed family camping trips and raising their kids in Bellevue. The family also lived in Seville, Spain for three years.
Later in life, Liz was involved in the travel industry, working for U.S. Air as a sales representative. It was a career she enjoyed immensely, and it was a perfect fit with her bubbly and social nature.
She and her partner, Pam, were together for 32 years, and enjoyed world travel together. They lived in Kingston and Tucson each year.
Liz is survived by her partner Pamela Foster, daughters Laurie and Amy Austin, sister Jeanne Mazzoni (Bill) and cousin Karen Snelgrove Jensen (Peter).
At her request, there will not be a memorial service. Contributions in Liz's honor may be made to Seattle Men's Women’s Chorus, Woodland Park Zoo and Harmony Hill Retreat – Swedish Cancer Institute Seattle.
