Ella Bryan was born Ella Margaret Stacy on August 30th 1910 in Redwood City, CA. Her parents were Lewis and Annie Stacy. Her father worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, and her mother ran the household, taking care of Ella, her older sister Annie and two brothers, Lewis and John.
Ella enrolled in the San Francisco Business College. Her first job was in banking at the Sacramento County Bank. She transferred to the Bank of America where she worked 15 years. She married Homer Bryan on November 8, 1947. Homer adopted Ella’s son, Robert, and the tight-knit family lived in Redwood City and Walnut Creek, CA. Homer worked for the U.S, Department of Forestry and later the Department of Agriculture in Kailua, HI.
The family moved around before settling in Seattle. Ella’s mother, Annie, lived with them until she was 101 years old (the fire alarm was set off by one hundred and one birthday candles; this practice was not repeated again). Homer passed away in 2003, and Ella was unfortunate to see her only son pass in 2011. She is survived by her 2 grandchildren, Michael and Patrick, and 3 great grandchildren, Claire, Dylan and Maximus.
