Elsie A. Berg Hansson was born to Hans and Amanda Hansson on February 9, 1912 in Sweden. She was the last remaining child of a family of 17 children. Elsie immigrated to the United States in 1927. She worked as a housekeeper for Pastor Swanson of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. While living with her sister Anna, she became acquainted with the milkman. His name was Gus. Yes, she married the milkman! They had one daughter, Elsie Ann. They spent most of their married life in Seattle, with a short period of time in Portland, Oregon. She also worked for the Seattle School District in Food Service and volunteered many hours at Gethsemane Lutheran Church helping with the Golden Circle.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Elsie Ann and her husband, Larry Carpenter, also her granddaughters, Lori West and her husband Martin, Belinda Ballah and her husband Mike, 5 great grandchildren: Joshua, Nicole, Ryan, Britney and Lacey, who were the loves of her life.
Along with her love for her family, she also loved the Lord and the church. She was famous for her Swedish pancakes, coffee and cookies. One never left her house without enjoying at least one of these.
She lived her life to the fullest up to her last days. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends on the 9th of February. She described her party as being the nicest birthday party she had ever had.
Whether you had just made her acquaintance or were a lifelong friend, you were blessed by her love and kindness.
