Erna Munske passed away quietly at the age of 98 1/2 Tuesday May 27, 2014.Erna was born September 4, 1915 in Sagan Germany. She received her US Naturalization papers in March of 1964 and has resided in the Ravenna area of Seattle since 1966. She worked for 18 years at the U of W Research Department and retired in 1980. She loved traveling and her annul trips to Soap Lake, WA. Her greatest pleasure was gardening in her Ravenna yard.
Erna was a very independent self reliant woman that lived in her Seattle home for 45 years till the age of 95, until she fell on her deck breaking her hip, and only then did she slow down and take up residence in a adult family home in Edmonds.
Her life story is long and untold like so many others.Family records kept by the church go back over three hundred years in the district of Silesia, Germany. Born and raised in Sagan a beautiful German town with idyllic castles and medieval town, she often said, it was unusual to move and marry outside of your town and neighboring towns, let alone move from your native land. But, two world wars took the lives of most of her ten brothers and sisters, and her home town was taken over and is now part of Poland . She was forced to leave home at the early age of 14 growing up during the Failed Weimar Republic and the great depression that preceded Hitler. Her stories are interesting and many about the war as she lived in Berlin enduring day and night bombing raids at wars end. Life experiences build character , she was grateful for the opportunities America had to offer. She never spoke a despiteful word about her hardships in life and only reflected on how thankful she was for the simplest pleasures.
Erna Munske is survived by her son Randal Munske, his wife Karen Munske, and many relatives in the US and Germany. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle, WA. on June 7th at 3:00 in the afternoon...
