We were saddened to hear of our dear friend Ernie's passing and wish to pass on our deepest sympathy to all the family. We met Ernie 27 years ago when he and Gin were in NZ staying at a motor camp and after chatting and sharing stories with a lot of laughter, we exchanged addresses and began writing and getting to know each other further. In 1982 we came to Seattle for the first time and had a lovely time staying with them and over the next 25 years we met several times both in their country and ours and also in Australia. We had so much love and affection for them and special times shared when Ernie took us out on the Police Launch; a road trip away in their motorhome and one crazy fishing expedition in a Vietnamese Junk early in the morning when he took Harold and his cop buddies (and a flask of whisky!!).  Don't think the boys caught much fish but they sure had a great time!  We took him and Gin out in our boat also and have many happy memories of our time shared enjoying this special friendship. Gone but never forgotton, dear friend. xx 

It is with great honor, and in loving memory, I offer these memories of my step father, Ernie Randall.
Ernie came into my life when I was 18 years old, shortly after he married my mother.  At first blush, he was affable, with an eccentric sense of humor.  He clearly loved my Mom and readily accepted her family, and their offspring, as his own.  Many anecdotes could be told on this part of the story, but my heart wants to convey my feelings for this most remarkable man.
Unknown to many, Ernie grew up in the Depression era.  Times were tough and he took responsibility for helping provide for his family. As a child, he found small odd jobs to put food on the table.  This formative time in his life instilled some undeniable character traits.
Ernie was an achiever!  He became an Eagle Scout and retired as a Sergeant from the Seattle Police Department.  His association with the SPD was a great source of comfort and pride.  Through the fellowship of his fellow officers, golf tournaments, spaghetti dinners and auctions, RAP Club and Foot Printers, he could be counted on to participate and support.
He was resourceful.  Before Mom died, they worked together building their empire.  Together, they bought six homes to fix up and rent or sell.  Sometimes life would happen, and their plans were delayed   to provide housing for one of their displaced kids!  When their plans were changed, they never complained.
Ernie was compassionate:  There were many instances in life when he opened their home to people in need.  He walked the walk with sick and dying family members.  He opened his home or checkbook to those in distress.  He did it willingly, without complaining.
He was loving:  I laugh when I think of how loving his character was.  Camping, teaching the little ones to fish, playing Cribbage after dinner, or watching him ride his lawn mower with a cowboy hat on and a beer in his hand, he loved it all!
I will miss his arm around my neck, the kiss on my cheek, and being asked, "how ya doing, kid?'.  I will miss his stories and hope I acquired some of his beautiful character.  And I pray that God rests and God blesses his soul.  He will be missed!



I hope you and mom are together in heaven.  You sure were happy here!  I have so many memories of you and mom fishing and hunting at our ranch and you worked so hard together at the house in Shoreline...those huge gardens you had!  Mom picking those marion berries and all that canning and freezing.  You two had so many fun trips, too and I know mom was happy sharing her life with you for so many years. You and mom were kind and generous and giving to Mike and me and I will love you always for taking such good care of her.

Hi Grandpa. Elias, Kendall and I are very grateful to have been able to share as much time as we did with you over the past few years. I will not forget the expression on your face when I was able to fix and drive the Ghia back down your driveway so that you could see her one last time. I will always remember that you never lost your sense of humor. My memories are numerous. Thank you for being a dignified good man in my life. I miss you. See you on the other side. I remember all the fishing and camping trips, clamming trips we got to take with Ernie, those where some great times in my life, will be missed! 

I worked for Ernie, we went fishing, camping, hunting, golfing and recently met for lunch regularly. He was friend to everybody and will be sorely missed. may he rest in eternal peace.

I will miss you so much. I only wish we would have met 40 years earlier. Im so glad I got to come up and spend time with  you dad, Princess and Lynn . I was glad to meet Tawnya and her kids and I hope to meet Dee and her siblings some day. I think dad would like that. I will really miss our phone calls White light to you.
