A committal service for Everett will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at Evergreen Washelli Funeral, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
Everett “Pete” Paup passed away peacefully in December 2024 in Seattle, WA at the age of 93. Pete's wife of 63 years, Andrea, predeceased him in 2019. Originally from the Seattle area, Pete graduated from Roosevelt High School and then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Stanford University. During his college years, Pete was a varsity team coxswain in crew at both Stanford University and at the University of Washington, having first trained with the Lake Washington Rowing Club before entering college. Each year the winner of the UW/Stanford Varsity 8 Race earns the “Andrea and Everett Peter Paup Cup” named for the support Pete and Andrea have shown for both crews over the decades.
Upon his graduation from college, Pete also earned his commission in the US Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. Pete then served out his active-duty commitment during the post-Korean War Era at the Marine Corps base in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, specializing in anti-aircraft artillery. Subsequent to his active-duty time, Pete served in the US Marine Corps Reserves for 30 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Pete was extremely active in heavy civil marine construction in the Pacific NW and Alaska, as a leader of many companies over his career: Larsen Construction, Seaborn Pile Driving, E.P. Paup Company, and Manson Construction Co. He was also actively involved with the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), in which during his presidency the prestigious AGC Chapter of the Year was awarded to the Seattle Chapter.
Reading the newspaper was always an interest of Pete, whether the articles were about his favorite sports teams, such as the Huskies, Seahawks or Stanford Cardinal, or whatever the latest political hullabaloo of the day happened to be. Pete served on many philanthropic boards and was an avid supporter of the arts, along with Andrea.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 18th at Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church, 2650 - 148th Avenue S.E., Bellevue, WA 98007, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pete's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Rainier Scholars (rainierscholars.org) in his honor.
