Born in Guangdong Province (Wing Wo Village), China, Frank (Fung Chung) Louie was the eldest of three children. Growing up in a small village in China during the late 1930’s and 1940’s greatly influenced his life and legacy.
Frank had to live independently at an earlier age than most. His father, mother, and brother immigrated to the U.S. years before he was allowed to. He lived with various family and friends of family in China and in Hong Kong before making the long trek to the United States.
His journey began in the mid-1960s, taking him to Alaska, Illinois, and Wisconsin, before moving to Seattle, Washington in 1979. He achieved U.S. citizenship when living in Wisconsin in 1974. He was a stalwart of the Beacon Hill neighborhood, where he resided for his final 44 years. Everybody within walking distance knew Frank. He would start a conversation with anyone. He really enjoyed being connected in his community. Prior to retirement, he spent his career in the restaurant/food service industry.
Frank enjoyed watching sports with full commentary, indulging in all types of food and delicacies, cooking, making sure his children finished their homework, and spending time with his family. He kept treats and toys on hand for any child who entered his home and if you needed a place to stay, the door was always open. Our family home was often referred to as The Hotel Louie. Frank made sure you felt at home and what was his was yours.
He is survived by his younger brother, Henry; children Jennifer (Trey), Stephanie (Steve), Jason (Katie); and 6 grandsons (Jack, Andrew, Evan, Benjamin, Elliott, Cameron).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ah Tew and Kam Hor; brother; and wife and companion of over 40 years, Kathleen.
He will be remembered as generous, hard working, loyal, giving, a charmer, and a fighter. His charisma and his ability to connect with others was a sight to see. He astounded doctors by consistently overcoming major health issues due to his tenacity and will to live. He left a lasting impact with each person he connected with and will be missed tremendously.
