

Freeman Christopher Dixon passed away peacefully at home in Maple Valley, with his wife by his side, on January 9, 2017. reeman was born in Dayton, Oregon on December 20, 1934 to Daniel Edward Dixon and Verna Viola Turner Dixon. Freeman was a Private in the United States Army – Heavy Weapon Infantry. He was stationed in Japan for two years and then in the Army Reserves for eight years. He worked for the Boeing Airplane Company as a mechanic. Freeman retired in 1995 after working for the company for 36 years. Freeman has three children from a previous marriage, Michael R. Dixon VanVelkenburg of California, Mark R. Dixon of Kansas, and MaryAnne Brown of Virginia.
In 1979 he met Doreen Sutter at square dancing lessons. Doreen didn’t know anybody on her first dance lesson so Freeman was her “Angel”. However, he didn’t talk to her for over a month. Then they started talking and the rest is history. In 1980 he married Doreen Alice Sutter and together they adopted Amanda Doreen Dixon in 1992. He also took in a couple of other children over the years, Felicia Kelly (McCann) and Theodore Seddon. He loved his John Deere tractor and enjoyed working in the yard, planting a huge vegetable garden every year, traveling, and spending time with his wife.
Freeman is survived by his wife, Doreen; six siblings – Vivian Moe, Betty Guthrie, Marie Fuller, Lillian Stacke, Martin Dixon, and Edna Becker; two sons – Michael R. Dixon VanVelkenburg and Mark R. Dixon; two daughters – MaryAnne Brown and Amanda Leighton; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Freeman will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who loved and knew him. We will celebrate his life and remember his stories.
Memorial service at Tahoma National Cemetery on January 27, 2017 at 10:30 am. Arrangements made by Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home of Renton and the Cremation Society Northwest of Seattle. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety.
