Fumiko Nishinaka was born on January 21, 1911 on Bainbridge
Island, WA and was a longtime resident of Seattle. Fumiko was
preceded in death by her husband, Saburo of 47 years, son
Satoru Leonard and seven siblings. Fumiko is survived by son,
Neal (Trudy) Hayashida, Kayo Natalie (Albert) Ong, daughterin-
law Barbara Hagen-Hayashida and sister Midori Yamasaki in
Wakayama, Japan. She leaves behind eight grand children and
twelve great-grand children.
Briefly schooled in Japan, Fumiko returned to her family and
graduated from Bainbridge Island High School. Marriage to
Saburo was followed by the birth of Neal then Natalie. In 1942
the family was forcefully evacuated to Manzanar where Leonard
was born. Shortly thereafter the family transferred to Minidoka.
After internment, the family returned to Bainbridge Island.
Only/however when Saburo took a job with Boeing the family
moved to Seattle. Fumiko was a wife, homemaker and mother.
She traveled, enjoyed playing cards and poker, loved her family
and collected friends and frogs!
