Furb grew up in Western Washington, attended Beacon Hill Elementary and graduated from West Seattle High School in 1949. While attending Seattle Pacific College he worked full-time for Standard Oil in Seattle. Furb graduated from SPC in 1958 with a BA in education. That same year he married Eunice Vordahl at Denny Park Lutheran Church in Seattle. They were married over 42 years.
Furb served as a teacher and filled many other roles at Bellevue Christian School from 1959 until 1985. Following his retirement in 1985 from Bellevue Christian, he served on staff at Redmond Christian School in Bellevue and Dayspring School in Woodinville throughout the 1990s. Furb enlisted in the US Navy Reserve in 1956 and served at Navy Station Seattle, Naval Air Station Sand Point, and Naval Air Station Oak Harbor in naval intelligence until retiring from service in 1986. He volunteered with the Gideons International giving away Bibles for many years in Seattle.
Furb also enjoyed serving with the Mountaineers as assistant lodge chairman at Snoqualmie from the mid 1970s until the early 1990s. Furb used his gifts in the church as a youth pastor at Westside Presbyterian in West Seattle, attended Puget Sound Chapel (OPC) and was a member and deacon at Juanita Community Church in Kirkland for almost 40 years. He truly enjoyed teaching and encouraging others, and helped to pioneer the church's youth camping program (Camp Hope). He enjoyed his family, road trips, reading, writing poetry and telling a good pun.
Furb had an encouraging and generous spirit, and he freely shared his most precious earthly possessions (his beloved books!) with others. Many friends and former students treasure volumes that were given to them as gifts with Furb's name inscribed inside.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice, in 2001. Survivors include his brother Richard (Marlene) Jolley, sons Jonathan Jolley, David (Rebecca) Jolley-Ruud, and Matthew Jolley. Other survivors include four grandchildren and numerous extended family.
