
George Edward Kubasta, son of John J. Kubasta and Frieda Gutzmer Kubasta, was born on September 15th, 1925, near Merrill Wisconsin. He died at home on Tuesday, March 21st, 2006 at 1am. He was 80 years old.
George's family moved to Seattle when he still young. At the age of 18, after a short time in the Merchant Marines, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Army from March 27th, 1944 to April 14th, 1946. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was listed as a First Mate, Small Boat Operator. George earned his marksmanship qualification for the 03 rifle. The battles and campaigns he participated in, took place in New Guinea, and the Southern Philippine area. Decorations and Citation during his service were, The Asiatic Pacific Theater Service medal, the Philippine Liberation Service medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Good Conduct medal, and the Victory medal.
After his military service George returned to Seattle, and on November 15th, 1947, he married Ellen M. Becker. His daughter, Dorothy was born in 1948 and their son, David was born in 1951. He was a member of the Teamster's Union, local 174. Most of his time while a Teamster, he worked for Eyers Transfer, and Allison Mitchell Transfer companies. He retired in October 1986.
George had an active retirement; he enjoyed playing softball with the Shoreline Seniors. He attended classes to learn clock repair, which lead to repair and cleaning of numerous clocks for friends and family. Woodworking was a favorite. He made many craft items such as shelves, bookcases, tables, pouting stools, benches, toys, etc. for family and friends. His bigger projects included new kitchen cabinets, refinishing all 16 mahogany doors in the house, and complete restoration of an antique pump organ said to have traveled to Seattle in a covered wagon. George always maintained a good attitude no matter what challenges he faced.
George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ellen, his daughter Dorothy Brennan husband John, son David wife Joy, beloved grandchildren Marian Brennan, Patrick Brennan wife Katheryn, Kristopher, and Matthew, sisters Betty Tindale and Helen Andrus, and brothers Bob and Fred. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers John and LeRoy.
