
Gilbert Loewing was born in New Orleans, LA on April 2, 1908. He spent his entire life in Seattle, WA. He was able to recall life in early Seattle. As a boy he attended a band concert directed by Jon Phillip Souza. He saw Princess Angeline Chief Seattle?s daughter selling her baskets in Pioneer Square, ate produce from Pikes Place Market his dad brought home on the Greenwood Cable Car, attended a one room school on Lake Washington at Hunts Point and was one of the first boys to attend Camp Parsons Boy Scout Camp in Brinnan, Washington.
Gilbert had a strong work ethic and was proud of the fact that he began work at age eight for Chris Nelson delivering milk. He put himself through college working at a bank by day and running an elevator by night. He purchased his first car two days before the stock market crash in 1929 and enjoyed riding pedestrians about during the depression. Loving the import export business he spent his career on Seattle waterfront as an accountant for three different steamship companies.
The light of his life was his wife, Margaret. They had 64 married years together and dated for four years prior. They enjoyed entertaining their friends at their home and their lake cabin. He was a good father to his daughters and grandfather to his grandchildren
Gilbert was exposed early to good music and he appreciated it all his life. He sang in a church choir, and enjoyed dancing and whistling along with catchy tunes. He had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories. He was proud to be an American citizen and respected the rights of the individual and the freedoms America offered. His trademark was honesty and he lived and worked by those principles. He will be missed.
