
Gladys, born March 18, 1926, in New Jersey, died at home in Seattle on Decembr 8, 2005, with her husband and family gathered around her in prayer. Graduating from High school as the valedictorian at 15, she worked in the New York Theaters, in banking and then chose a career in nursing. In 1953 she married Luther and together they accepted a call to serve in India after the birth of their first son. There she had five more children, setup a home clinic, worked in church groups, home-taught her children in their early primary years, taught higher-level Math in high schools, tutored children with learning disabilities, and started a medical lab and X-Ray facility in the local hospital.
Returning to the USA in 1977, gladys continued her service as a nurse in area hospitals and nursing homes and remained involved with church groups. After retiring, she volunteered as a school nurse and art teacher in addition to her church activities. She could nurse, run a lab, take and read X-Ray, teach, draw, sew, knit, stay involved with church and raise a family. She lived a life which modeled selfless service and great love.
She is survived by her husband, Luther Engelbrecht, her six children and 14 grandchildren and her sister Carol. We miss her presence, cherish what she gave us and hold her mememory in our hearts.
