Glenna was born in Latah in Eastern Washington, a child of Adeline and Sherman Sterling, and one of four children. The others were Ross, Frances and Isabel. Her father was Superintendent of Schools in several Eastern Washington school districts and she inherited a studious brain and always loved school and all studies.
Her parents divorced and the family was separated, so her youth was spent with various relatives which gave her the ability to adjust to most circumstances with strength of character and a great work ethic.
She became a legal secretary at an early age, which lead to a position in mortgage banking, after her marriage to Bob Kendall and move to Seattle. Her position grew to one of management in the mortgage banking field and eventually she joined The Bank of California, where she and another built a mortgage department in the bank's expansion. John Mills who had joined with Glenna in this endeavor decided to build a business and Glenna joined him and, together, they incorporated and began a hectic mortgage banking business during a period in the U.S. when rates were high and the economy “worrisome”.
The business turned out to be a success and grew for 30 years until its sale.
Glenna and Bob loved Hawaii and took many trips to Maui and also traveled to Europe, visiting England, Scotland and Switzerland. They also enjoyed music and theatre, contributing to both Taproot Theatre and the 5th Avenue Theatre.
They also enjoyed family times on Camano Island, where Bob had built a cabin and picnics were fun. Lake Chelan was another “fun destination” where they spent time each summer. Glenna always saw to it that all nieces, nephews and sisters and brother were included as they gathered.
She loved music and flowers, seeing to it that she and her husband and/or friends saw most of the theatre productions available.
