The Jolly Good Fellow is gone, but he didn’t take it all. We still have precious memories of him that will never be forgotten. Replacement? Impossible! Shoes too big to fill. Love and joy everlasting.
Gregory Calvin Thompson, the Crown Jewel and beloved son of Wiley Thompson and Betty Thomas, passed away on November 19, 2019, after a courageous battle with pneumonia. Greg was born on April 26, 1970, at Group Health Hospital, where his father stood by impatiently waiting for the arrival of his first and only son. Why did it take so long for his only son’s arrival? *BAM* there he was, smiling and kicking. That was 49 years ago. His mother, Betty, with tired eyes and relief, probably recalled that day a little bit differently.
Greg was a fan of old school; from the Blaxploitation Films of the 70s to the hoppin’ beats of the 90s. Our friend was a music enthusiast and a talented graphic artist, with a knack for sketching portraits as well. He loved his friends and family, always giving hugs to brighten their day.
For 9 years, Greg was a dedicated employee to the Seattle Art Museum. This is where you’ll find him laughing and joking with his peers, while protecting the precious art exhibits that were on display.
Greg is survived by his parents, Wiley Thompson and Betty Thomas and a multitude of family members; sister, Kimberly Thompson Noble; brother-in-law, Robert Noble; niece Asha Noble, nephews, Mackenzie Obeleagu and Michael Metu (son of his late sister, Deidre Thompson, who will guide him through the wonderland); uncles Larry Thompson, Charles Thompson, Bernard Thompson and their families; aunts, Brenda Smith, Carolyn Washington, Virgie Lynn Robinzine, Debra Jackson and their families; cousins Cheryl Wright, Alfred Moore, special cousin Marie Cohns and many more relatives far and wide.
Gregory Calvin Thompson, you will be truly missed.
Celebration's in honor of Greg's Life will be held Saturday, December 7, 10:00AM in the Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home "Celebration Hall" 11111 Aurora Ave N. Seattle, and at the Seattle Art Museum, 1300 1st Ave. Seattle, on Friday, December 27; 5:00PM-7:00PM.
