Helen Chris (Barbas) Heuer was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 1st, 1934. The Barbas family moved to Seattle in 1944, settling in Queen Anne, where Helen went to Queen Anne High School and graduated in 1953. In her youth, she took singing lessons and mastered a soprano voice, which she shared in the St Demetrios Choir. In 1953, Helen auditioned for the Seattle Symphony and was selected to perform on stage at Seattle’s Moore Theatre.
On a trip back to Greece, Helen and her mother Marigoula took the Nea Hellas Ocean Liner, where Helen was crowned beauty queen. Helen had talent and beauty inside and out.
Helen worked for the Seattle School District for 27 years and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the high school students she came in contact with. She also held a second job at Seattle's Monorail, selling tickets. When she wasn't working, Helen loved her time as a Board Member of the St. Demetrios Philoptochos, and served a term as Philoptochos President. You would always find her working at the yearly church festival.
Helen met and married her forever person, Robert F. Heuer. Their vacations, gardening and golfing were highlights of their wonderful life they built together. Helen loved traveling with her family to exciting places in the U.S. and Europe.
