Helen was born in Seattle, Washington on October 30th, 1920. Born to Susanna and George Lester, she grew up on Beacon Hill, attended grade school at Saint George Catholic School and graduated in 1939 from Cleveland High School. She was the youngest of four, having three brothers (Andy, John, and George). She married Edward “HAP” Moore, started raising a family, plus continued to work full time. Helen was extremely dedicated, focused, and organized for any task she had to tackle in life. She received various awards for outstanding work during her time as assistant manager at the Veterans’ Hospital Canteen. She was well liked and looked up to by her co-workers.
Helen was an outstanding role model and mother to her three children (Terry Moore, Kathy Roberts, and Helen Kistler). Helen was also a loving mother to her “honorary daughter” (Cheryl Austin) who came into Helen’s life at the age of eight and fifty some years later is still a wonderful part of the family. Helen was able to create a loving environment for her family in the same house she spent her childhood growing up in. She would take in or help care for any in need in her neighborhood.
Helen loved to travel. After retirement, she went on many trips with her friends Dorothy and Fran. She traveled all over the West Coast and into Canada. She loved to stay on the go seeing new places. Helen was a member for years with her fellow gal friends on a bowling league. She had numerous trophies and pins that showed scores of 220 and 230 plus. She loved taking her grandchildren out and spending special time with each one of them. She took them hiking in the mountains, to movies, to the fairs in Washington, or just out to see something interesting.
In 1998, Helen was seriously injured in a car accident that almost claimed her life. Her recovery was long with many bumps along the way. She was hospitalized for months and even needed open heart surgery. She always had a zest for life and the strength and strong will to continue on, that ultimately enabled her to enjoy many more years of life.
Helen is survived by her son Terry and daughters Kathy and Helen. She has grandchildren from all three of her children, plus has great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Terry Moore (m.
