On December 8, 1923, Helen was born in Seattle, Washington, the fourth child of Reverend Dr. Honor Lupher Wilhelm and Helen Gordon Wilhelm. She grew up in Ballard and graduated from Ballard High School in 1941. She then attended and graduated from the Metropolitan Business College in May, 1942.
On April 2, 1943, her father performed her marriage ceremony in their family home to Arvid James Sagor. It was the 2,505th wedding Honor had performed. Helen and Arvid celebrated over 60 years of marriage before Arvid's death in December, 2003.
During World War II, Helen was a secretary at the Navy Supply Depot in Seattle. After her children, Judy and Bruce, were in school, she began working at Sears. By the time she retired, she had completed over 25 years of service, first at the Roosevelt store until it closed and then at the main store on 1st Avenue.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, including frequent visits to Southern California where Judy lived for many years. She had a great trip to Japan and Hong Kong while Judy was living in Tokyo for six years. It was during this time that her family discovered that she was born in the year of the pig (the Asian Zodiac) and pigs became a frequent collectible for Helen in addition to her teddy bears.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Neal) Zimmerman; her son, Bruce (Candace) Sagor; and her grandchildren, Brent, Eric and Stacy Zimmerman.
