Fallen Leaves    
 Leaves that blow from autumn trees
Prepare the way for winter freeze
To chart the paths of moving time
A cycle plays out nature's rhyme

Though sometimes leaves do fall in spring
The sound's an unfamiliar ring
New from buds the leaves they form
They grow amidst the sun so warm

So why do some release their bounds?
And tumble gently towards the ground
To disconnect from what they know
And sacrifice the chance to grow

Only god can know these things
And why he calls for leaves in spring
Perhaps leaves choose to ride the wind
To find some place to start again

We will miss Herb so much and always remember his great stories and jokes. He was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor. Orpha, our prayers and thoughts will be with you and your family during this time of sorrow.

Auf Wiedersehen Herb.  I didn't know you long but we had a couple of smiles while I pushed your wheelchair from dialysis to the lobby at Group Health.  Even though you were sick, you still had a sense of humor.  I would liked to have known you in a different capacity. My sympathies go out to your Family.  Paul Meyer

Dear Orpha - So sorry to read of Herbert's passing.  I know oh how hard it is to lose your life partner. But I know he was not having a quality life and now he is at peace. God bless you and  your family at this difficeult time. I am working Saturday until noon and will try to get to the committal.  All my love, Donna Raymond.

Herb was our mailman 40 years ago in Wallingford. We still remember how kind he was. We also recall the contest he had with our next door neighbor over who could lose the most weight in a given period of time. Herb won, and she took him out for a meal. We were all crushed when he took a route in the U-Dist. to save his knees from all the Wallingford stairs.

I am so sorry to hear Herb passed. He was a wonderful person and it was nice to talk to him when he came to OVDC.  I will truly miss him and his little joking comments and your phone calls. It was to nice to get to know both of you over the years.  I will always remember you both. Take care of yourself and know you and your family are in my thougths and prayers. Love Jeanette OVDC

Grandpa, I love you and miss you a lot. Your stone is wonderful.  The tears I shed that day were because it made it a little more real that you aren't here on earth.  I feel you in my heart all the time.  I know you are always around me and know you will be in your back yard the day of the wedding.  I Love you...

Herbie was our beloved postman on 41st and Eastern Ave. N. when I was growing up.  I believe he and Orpha were actually at my wedding back in 1973.  His smiling face and kind and gentle ways are imprinted on my memory forever.  He was never without a smile and a kind word.  We lost touch over the years but I will never forget the warm touch he left on our lives.  The whole family was very fond of him.  That was a day when your mail actually landed in your own mailbox!  I have been a film maker for the last 25 years and am currently working with Imax and a number of very French names.  One of the names was similar and made me think of Herbie.  I Googled him up and I was sad to find that he had passed and that I had missed his memorial.  To all of his family:  You are very blessed that Herbie was your Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather.  He was a GEM!
