Herb Cohen was born in Paterson, NJ to Gerson and Fannie Cohen. He attended Rutgers University on full scholarship, graduating with a BA in English in 1951. After some graduate studies in New York, Herb joined the Army and shipped out to Japan. He met his wife Yoko in Kyoto. Herb was stationed in Otsu, Fukuoka and Kokura before leaving the Army to join the civil service in Tokyo. Although never formally trained in Japanese, Herb became fluent in the spoken language and throughout his life enjoyed surprising sushi chefs and others with his fluency. In 1960, Herb and his family relocated to Pasadena, CA where Herb joined Bell and Howell as an IT pioneer, back when it was called EDP. He worked as an IT manager at various firms in the LA area, primarily in the manufacturing and entertainment industries. He established his own consulting firm Pasacone and continued working well into his 70’s. For the past five years, Herb lived near his daughter in Seattle. Devoted husband, father and grandfather, Herb was preceded in death by his wife Yoko Cohen. He is survived by his brother Larry Cohen, daughter Miya Cohen-Sieg, son-in-law Ross Sieg, grandchildren Miranda and Ian Sieg, and nieces and nephews in New Jersey and Japan.
