Howard Eugene Evans Jr., age 73, of Lynnwood, Washington passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Howard was born in Keokuk, Iowa, and when he was about 8 years old, moved with his family to the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Howard was drafted into the military after high school and received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps in 1969. He then began a career in retail at Ernst Hardware and remained a loyal, hardworking employee there for over 25 years, building many lifelong friendships and connections, until the company went out of business in 1996. He continued working in retail at local Pacific Northwest stores such as Drug Emporium/Long’s Drugs, and Bartell Drugs until his retirement in 2015.
Howard married his first wife, Toni LeFever, in 1970, and they had two children together. They were divorced, and he later met and married his wife, Genevieve. At the time of his passing, he had a wonderful blended family consisting of 8 children and 14 grandchildren. In 2020, he was delighted to learn through Ancestry DNA that he had another daughter, who has quickly become a part of the family.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Reynolds Evans; his children Christina (Tim) Downie, Noel Bergan Dennis-Walters (Jonathan Olson), Christopher Evans (and fiancée Laura), Brandon Dennis, Blake Dennis (and significant other Alina), Austin Dennis (Paige Irwin), Whitnie Carpenter, and his son Nick's widow Amy; grandchildren Brian, Isaiah, Anthony, Jack, Riley, Hayden, Quinn, Logan, Olive, Oscar, Frances, Oro, Fierro, and Sadie; siblings Frank (Maggie) Evans, Joan (Gary) Gregory, Larry (Pam) Evans, Roger (Teresa) Evans, and brother-in-law Jim Brundage. He is preceded in death by his parents Howard Evans Sr. and Allian Nutter, his son Nick Dennis, and his sister Carol Brundage.
Howard loved to fish, and appreciated all things nature. He was always keeping an eye out for deer and bald eagles. He enjoyed socializing at local watering holes such as Harvey's Tavern and MVP's Sports Bar, and made many friends there. He was a longtime, devoted Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan, and he also collected Harley Davidson memorabilia. His favorite musicians were Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Every morning he could be found on his front porch solving a Sudoku puzzle. He always had a joke at the ready, with the biggest grin and the greatest laugh. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of Howard's two favorite charities, St. Jude (stjude.org), or Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org). Howard's family is in the process of making memorial service arrangements and will announce the details soon.
