

Willard Howard Mendenhall, born June 18, 1916 in Tacoma, Washington, died June 23rd, just five days after his 100th birthday. He died peacefully at his home in Horizon House. He was the son of Alice and Willard Mendenhall. He attended Tacoma grade schools but graduated from Broadway High School in Seattle.
Growing up, Howard was always involved in music which continued throughout his entire life. As a student at the University of Washington he played in the Husky marching band and performed in the 1937 Rose Bowl. After college he played with the Center Case dance band that performed at the old Spanish Castle.
Graduating from UW in 1938 with a degree in accounting, he earned his CPA. He began his career working with different companies but for 44 years was with Scripps League (Pioneer) newspapers starting as auditor and retiring as President of the company. He was a long time member of the American Institute of CPA's.
Golf was another passion of Howards and he played the game well into his 90's. He was a former President of the Inglewood Country Club and for many years belonged to Broadmoor Country Club. He also belonged to the WAC, Rainier Club and was active in Seattle Rotary.
As a loyal Husky supporter, he belonged to the Tyee Club and had football season tickets for over 50 years.
Howard was preceeded in death by Audrey, his loving wife of 76 years, son Jim, daughter-in-law Vicki, both of Seattle, granddaughter Stacy and grandson Brandt, both of Phoenix and 3 great-grandchildren all of Phoenix.
At his request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Fred Hutch or Children's Orthopedic Hospital.
