Howard Minato was born in Lewistown, Montana to Frank Koichi & Misao Minato. He attended Broadway High School in Seattle and the University of Washington. He served in WWII with the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Service (MIS). In 2008 he was presented the Japanese American Nisei Soldier "Congressional Gold Medal", the highest U.S. civilian award. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Sumiko Minato, son Michael (Cheryl) Minato, daughter Jeanne (Kenneth) Yorozu, son John (Teresa) Minato, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and sister Margaret Gojio of Seattle.
