Howard J. Morrill, 95, of Seattle, WA, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024. He was born in Seattle on March19, 1929 to Howard W. Morrill and Fayetta Johnston Morrill. He attended Haller Lake Elementary and Lincoln High School, graduating in 1947.
His studies at the University of Washington were interrupted when he was drafted into the US army. He served in Korea for nearly two years and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Howard then completed his studies in history at the UW to become a teacher. It was at the UW that he met his future wife, Audrey Ramsey. They married in 1957 and raised their three children in northeast Seattle. Howard taught in the Seattle Public Schools, spending most of his years at Hamilton Middle School and Ingraham High School.
Howard was an avid sports fan, supporting Husky football, men's and women's basketball, softball and others. He also attended many classical music concerts and loved choral music.
Howard's wife, Audrey, passed away in 2007. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Delores Morrill and his children, Howard R. Morrill (Deborah Martin), Janet Morrill Barber (David Barber) and Carolyn Morrill (David Crowner), as well as seven grandchildren, Andrew, Sydney and Lucy Morrill, Alison and Melinda Barber and Ian and Cate Crowner.
A celebration of Howard's life will be held at University Presbyterian Church (4540 15th Ave. NE in Seattle) at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 7th. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Howard's honor be made to the University of Washington Fund.
