Jack Allen Burrell

John (Jack) Allen Burrell M.D. passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2016 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Goodhue Burrell, his mother Aleene Smith Burrell, his first wife Adelle Hogan Burrell, his brothers Bob and Chet Burrell.

Jack is survived by his loving and caring wife of 23 years, Lyn Andersen Burrell, his children Patricia Burrell Little (Rick), James Daniel Burrell, John Allen Burrell, Anne Burrell-Smith (Ramsay), grandchildren James Smith, Tyler Smith, Evyn Little, Ambyr Thomas, Jessie Little Carter, Trevor Burrell, his five great grandchildren Jarrell Carter, Vida Carter, Jade Carter, Jackson Thomas and Penelope Thomas.

Born in Seattle on June 3rd 1923, Jack grew up on Capitol Hill and was a proud Hiller through and through. He attended Stevens Elementary School and Broadway High School where he excelled in academics and athletics. Jack received a four year football scholarship to the University of Oregon. However, in March of his first year of college he enlisted in the United States Navy and was sent directly to pilot training school. He served in the South Pacific as a dive bomber fighter pilot during WWII flying SB2C’s and the F4F Wildcat off aircraft carriers. Jack was a Commissioned Officer and a Reservist in the Navy until 1955.

After the war Jack returned to Seattle, graduating from Seattle University with a degree in Chemistry. He went on to receive a medical degree from St. Louis University Medical School, specializing in vascular and general surgery. In the summer of 1960 he returned to Seattle and opened a private practice, splitting his time between his practice and patients at the Northwest Industrial Medical Clinic.

Jack will fondly be remembered for his love of family, lifelong patriotism, sense of humor, passion for Husky football, being the ultimate gentleman and his twinkling blue eyes. His life will be celebrated at the Bleitz Funeral Home at noon on Friday, March 11th. Graveside services will follow at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills in Lynnwood.
