James (Jim) Lowell Henry Jr., 87, passed away in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, on March 3, 2017. He was born on January 24, 1930, in New Rochelle, New York, to James Lowell Henry Sr. and Florence Mosely Henry. Jim graduated from Mamaroneck High School, then joined the U.S. Army, where he served as a parachute glider in the 82nd Airborne for four years. After completing his military service, Jim began his career in the newspaper industry at the New Rochelle Star. He then met the love of his life, Lynne Fausett, and they were married on March 7, 1953. Jim and Lynne moved from New York to Washington State when Jim accepted a job as a pressman for the Seattle Post Intelligencer, which later merged with the Seattle Times, where he was employed until he retired. He was an avid sailor and built successively larger sailboats, from an 8' El Toro, to a 26' Thunderbird, then a 32' Discovery and, finally, a 53' Spencer. Jim loved sailboat vacationing, racing, and ocean crossings. As a child, Jim spent many hours in the woods, where he developed an appreciation for and knowledge of wildlife and birds. He rescued and raised orphaned animals and birds while growing up and took a great interest in birdwatching as an adult. After retirement, Jim and Lynne joined a motor home club, the Royal Rovers, and enjoyed touring Washington State. Music was another hobby Jim enjoyed. He played the guitar, harmonica, and keyboard and was a member of several music groups that played his favorite golden oldies.
James is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynne Henry. He is survived by his son, James (Kim) Henry, daughters, Kim (John) McNamara and Carol (Robert) Flaming, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother, Ralph (Frances) Henry, sister, Patricia (Robert) Granberg, and many other friends and family members.
