Janet passed away peacefully on February 1, 2014, surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Janet was born in Seattle on October 27, 1944 and was a long time resident of Magnolia. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1962 and the University of Washington in 1966, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Janet married James Oliver in 1968, and taught junior high school in Seattle until she had her twin children, after which she devoted her time to being a loving and supportive mother, a wonderful wife and dear friend. In later years, she made an impact on many other young peoples' lives as a math tutor. She loved being a mom and a grandma, and many summers were spent with family and friends on the Oregon Coast, on Hood Canal, boating, and in Sun Valley. She enjoyed travel, having visited and cruised on almost every continent. She also loved tennis, bowling, bridge, gardening, raising cocker spaniels and the occasional visit to the casino. She is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Margaret North, and her sister Patti Froling. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim, her two children, Mark (Lori) and Suzie (Kevin), and her five grandchildren, Kailin, Maia, Evan, Ashley and Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Swedish Cancer Institute, the Caroline Kline Galland Home, or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Janet's life will be planned for a later date.
