Jim Richardson passed away peacefully June 25th, 2024. He was born in March of 1947 in Washington, where he lived his life and raised his family.
Jim had a love for music, cars, fishing, technology and family. He grew up helping his parents in their dry-cleaning shop, helping his “Grandad” on his farm in the summers, playing trumpet in the marching band in school, and went on to join the United States Air Force. During his 4 years of service, at 20 years old he married the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Jeanie Richardson. They had their oldest daughter Terri a year later in 1968 and their youngest daughter Toni followed 2 years later in 1970.
He worked in technology throughout his career, from Honeywell, Sperry, Univac and finally Intermec, and was proficient in computer repair before it was mainstream. Jim was great at fixing things, working with his hands, and took up many hobbies, including a home darkroom for photography. Fishing was a true passion and he was always looking forward to the next fishing trip he could enjoy with his family or friends. He taught his girls to camp and fish, to bait their hooks, sit patiently watching the tip of the pole, and clean their own catch. He also taught them to work on cars in the garage, giving them a great foundation of skills, as well as lots of bonding moments. Although he and his family lived in the city, his summers on the farm instilled farm-life values like loyalty, helping friends out, and hard work before play, which he also passed on to his daughters. Jim was often a man of few words, which unnerved a few boyfriends as the girls grew up into strong women. He was unwavering in his quest to make sure they could take care of themselves, from learning math, and how to split wood or mow the lawn, to insisting they knew how to drive a manual transmission. Jim loved his granddaughter Emma as well, and was excited to see her growing up, learning to drive, and for he and Jeanie to help her with her first car.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Mary Richardson; and his in-laws Henry and Helen Lund.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Richardson; his daughters, Terri Richardson and Toni Richardson; and his granddaughter Emma Greene. He was very much loved by all (and many more) and is sorely missed.
Jim will be laid to rest by his loved ones at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home on July 17th, 2024, at 10:00am.
Arrangements under the direction of Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, Seattle.
