John Alexander Hutchison (Jack) completed his life journey at home on July 28, 2016 at the age of 71. Born in Illinois, he moved as a boy to Washington State where, in 1963, he and his future bride, Connie, met in Mr. McCain's chemistry class at Ingraham High School. Connie and Jack were married in 1968 and together they raised two children and welcomed five grandchildren into their lives. Jack was not a big sports fan, but he was a supportive and engaged father who coached his children's soccer and baseball teams when they were younger, and never missed a game when they were older. Later, as a grandfather, he made a point of watching his grandchildren each week in gymnastics and at soccer; they were always excited to see him and to ride in grandpa's red truck.
Jack served in the Air Force, then completed a degree at Central Washington University. He was a Federal Civil Servant with the Department of Defense, Corps of Engineers and Federal Aviation Administration. With his lifelong interest in aviation, there was never an airport that didn't attract him, whether as a leisure traveler or professional inspector.
He was a private pilot, hunter, boater, mechanic, photographer, woodworker and all-around do-it-yourselfer. Bird hunting in Eastern Washington with friends, boating with family in the San Juans, repairing and refurbishing the boat, and photographing eagles, swans and Snow Geese on the Skagit Flats were among his pleasures. He loved to create by his own hand and share with those around him. An heirloom cradle, maple chest with cherry panels, turned bowls and pens, and numerous toys were gifts he made for family, friends and grandchildren.
He is survived by Connie, devoted wife of 48 years, son Jeff (Stacey) Hutchison, daughter Julie (Harlon) Engebretsen; sisters Heather (Brian) Kendregan, Mairi (Allen) Thennes; brothers Russell (Lisa Eckhart) Heagle, Wayne Heagle, Randy (Marla) Heagle, David (Linda) Hutchison; five dear grandchildren and a large number of caring family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at EvergreenHealth and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for their exceptional care, and Evergreen Hospice caregivers for their support. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests tributes to Medic One or a charity of your choice.
